Child Care Programs

The goal of our programs is to promote the physical, mental, social, and emotional development of each child by providing a high-quality child care program. Programs include a nutritious snack every day, outside play or indoor physical activity, crafts, special projects, and quiet times. We view the home, school, community, and child care settings as complementary and interrelated domains that affect children’s growth and development.
A list of all current child care and summer day camp programs is maintained in WebTrac, our online program registration service.  To learn more about current offerings or for a certain type of activity, click the link below.

Online Waitlist for Child Care 2019-20

Due to increasing demand for child care services, we have had to start a waitlist for services for next year. If your child is currently unenrolled in our programs
or new to Scarborough schools and you are interested in before-school and/or after-school programs for next year, you can enroll on our waitlist beginning at 8:00 am on Monday, April 15.

Direct Link to Waitlist Registration:
https://web1.vermontsystems.com/wbwsc/mescarboroughwt.wsc/search.html?display=detail&module=AR&primarycode=700000

  • Login in with your user name and password (these can be obtained by calling the SCS Office at 207-730-4150 [we will be closed on Monday, April 15, for Patriot's Day]).
  • All waitlists will appear below and will be specific to the school site your child will be attending.
  • Select your chosen school site by clicking the + button on the left hand side. PLEASE NOTE: You will need to enable pop-ups to continue registration.
  • Click Proceed to Checkout.

Change to Registration Process for Child Care 2019-20

Presently-Enrolled Families:

If your child or children are presently enrolled in the child care 2018-19 program, you will be given first opportunity to register for next year’s child care program.

  • Registration for presently-enrolled participants only will begin April 10 and finish at 4:00 pm on April 12. If you miss this specific time frame for registration, you will be required to sign up on the online waitlist with all other interested families.
  • You will still be required to stop by Scarborough Town Hall to complete registration in person. Please be sure to bring the card you wish to connect to billing as well as a check or cash for the registration fee of $125 per child.
  • While we prefer a primary guardian to complete the in-person registration, we realize that situations arise. Should you need to send someone else in your place, please be sure you have called us to update your information and connected a debit or credit card for billing. The person in your place will also need to have the completed waiver form with them and $125 in cash or check for the registration fee.
  • Parents of incoming Grades K-2 and Grades 6-8 students will complete registration in the Community Services Office on the third floor of Town Hall.
  • Parents of incoming Grades 3-5 students will register in Council Chambers on the main level on April 10 and in the Community Services Office on April 11 or 12.
  • If you have children at multiple child care locations (e.g., Wentworth and a primary school site) and you are registering on April 10, please complete all registrations in Council Chambers.
  • As in the past, all school sites are limited in spaces. If we run out of spaces during this registration period, your child will be placed on standby. Should spaces become available, we will contact standby enrollees before moving on to the online waitlist.
  • If you have child/ren presently enrolled and have a new sibling beginning in Fall 2019, we will enroll the new sibling as long as there is space available. If there are no spots available, they will go on standby. Should spaces become available, we will contact standby enrollees before moving on to the online waitlist. We will have a better idea of availability after initial registration has wrapped up on April 12.

REMINDER FOR PRESENTLY-ENROLLED FAMILIES! Please call our office at 207-730-4150 BEFORE April 10 so we can update all of your household information before the actual registration date. This will make it that much quicker for you and for everyone waiting in line! The phone call shouldn’t take more than 7-8 minutes. Thank you for helping us all out!

Once we have finished the first round of registration on April 12, we will temporarily close registration, giving us time to input all enrollees into tracking to evaluate what spaces or days are left at each school site. It will only be then that we open registration to unenrolled households.

Unenrolled Families:
If your child is currently not enrolled in the child care 2018-19 program, or is new to Scarborough Schools, please take the following steps:
  • We will begin an online waitlist on April 15 for all unenrolled families. Prior to April 15, please make sure you have a registration account in our system. Call us at 207-730-4150 so we can set up an account for you, update an existing account, or give you your login information. Since registration will be school specific, we will want to make sure all of your child/ren’s information is in the system correctly.
  • On April 15, beginning at 8:00 am, the online waitlist enrollment will open. This waitlist enrollment will essentially assign you a spot in line at your child’s school site so that we may contact you should space become available.

  • How to Register for Online Waitlist

Beginning April 22, we will post all remaining availability on our website (on our main page and our child care page): http://www.scarboroughmaine.org/departments/community-services

We will begin calling waitlist enrollees one by one on April 22, moving down the list in numerical order. If we contact you and you are interested in the days we have to offer, we will hold the days for you so that you may come in and officially register. Deadlines for official registration will be given during that phone call and if registration is not completed within that time, we will release those spots to the next person on the waitlist.

For details on each program, please refer to our 2019-20 Parent Handbook.

Club Teen After-School Program

The Club Teen program is designed to provide middle school students a safe and inviting place to be during their out-of-school hours. Club Teen is located in the Middle School Cafeteria (and occasionally in the Applied Humanities Room or Narragansett Building), with time and space for homework, recreational activities, clubs, sports, as well as free time. Only one card is permitted per child (we cannot split one child's fees between two cards).
