Free Fitness in the Park -- July 2020

Come celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month with Scarborough Community Services! We will be holding FREE fitness and wellness sessions in Memorial Park throughout the month of July thanks to a generous sponsorship from Martin's Point HealthCare. Try one or all sessions! Due to COVID-19 protocols, each session will have a maximum headcount. Be sure to pre-register for the sessions you want ASAP as they will fill up!

Mondays: Yoga

We will lay surrounded by the beauty of nature to nurture and balance our mind and body with breath work and movement. This all-levels class will open the space we need within to release stress and open ourselves to flow with the rhythm of our own lives. Plus, it will be fun! Perfect for the beginner yogi and advanced.

Thursdays: Laughter is the Best Medicine

It’s fun to share a good laugh, but did you know it can actually improve your health? Learn about the six daily practices of Good-Hearted Living™ that can help prevent "hardening of the attitudes,” and how to harness the powerful benefits of laughter in these FREE sessions, sponsored by Martin’s Point Health Care. While not viewed as a typical exercise class, these sessions provide many of the same physical, mental, and social health benefits. Each class will consist of 45 minutes of practice and, of course, laughter and fun. No previous experience is necessary. These classes are geared towards adults 18 and older. Please pre-register for this class online or by calling Community Services at 207-730-4150. Class is limited to 15 participants and will be spaced out accordingly in Memorial Park to adhere to social distancing protocols. All exercises are done either standing or sitting down so please bring your own chair, a water bottle, and the ability to think outside the box. Masks and/or face shields are appreciated.

Cancellation Notice for Summer Special Events -- Updated May 7, 2020

The Scarborough Community Services Department has been closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic in hopes we would be able to safely offer our summer community events to the residents of Scarborough and the surrounding communities. Based on the most recent restrictions, as well as the financial and time commitments with all involved, both in the public and private sector, we feel the safest strategy for everyone is to cancel this year’s Summerfest event.

After discussions with our partner, the Scarborough Community Chamber of Commerce, we also regret to announce that the Scarborough Summer Concerts in the Park series has been canceled, as well.

We have not taken this decision lightly and will work hard to make next year’s events the best yet. Please save your Thursday evenings for next summer to enjoy some great music and mark your calendars to join us at Summerfest 2021 on Friday, August 20. We look forward to celebrating with you next year!
