Dispatcher Eric Berry to Retire on June 2nd

posted May 30, 2017, 5:20 AM by Tim O'Brien

"As Eric gets ready to enjoy some well-deserved hunting and fishing, I want to congratulate him on his 35 years of service as a public safety dispatcher. For Eric, service to his community is a given. As a lifelong resident of Scarborough, Eric served the Fire Department for many years and held a number of positions, including serving as Deputy Chief.

I will miss his hearty laugh and good sense of humor as well as his good old fashioned common sense. I recently mentioned that losing Eric is like losing one of our backup systems. He has institutional knowledge that is far reaching and will be sadly missed.

While having computer generated run responses is common place today, it has been reassuring to know that if everything went down, Eric could still get all of the correct apparatus and responders to the right place using only his memory and common sense. It might be by having them take a left at the oak tree beyond Aunt Ruth’s house but they would get there.

For thirty five years I have appreciated his work, his dedication, and most importantly, his friendship. Congratulations Eric on a job well done!" - Chief Moulton
