It is a celebration of the tens of thousands of men and women in North America who provide and maintain the infrastructure services collectively known as public works. It calls attention to the importance of public works in community life. The week seeks to recognize the professionals who serve the public good every day with quiet dedication.

The 2014 National Public Works Week Theme, "Building for Today,Planning for Tomorrow" recognizes that what we do today is vital to a sustainable and vibrant tomorrow. Public Works plays a key role in the planning, building and maintenance of infrastructure projects in their communities.

The 2014 Poster reflects this theme by showing the established quality of life today and the plans for a vibrant, sustainable future as the community reaches upward.
