Cell Tower Ordinance Updates

After a year and a half of deliberation, on October 15, 2014 the Town Council approved a comprehensive revision to the Transmission Towers and Telecommunications Ordinance in an effort to improve cell tower coverage in Town, while protecting view corridors and residential neighborhoods. Through the use of carefully selected "overlay zones", great efforts were made to allow towers only in areas where coverage is lacking and away from residential neighborhoods. The ordinance revisions also require cellular providers to consider a multi-step hierarchy of need, including co-location and stealth installations before a new tower can be considered. Lastly, new and heightened performance standards have been included to guard against residential and visual impacts. A complete copy of the updated ordinance and map showing the overlay zones is attached.
