The FEMA Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has issued preliminary Flood insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) for Cumberland
County, Including the Town of Scarborough.  The new Flood Hazard maps can be viewed by clicking here, or in the Planning and Codes Department at Town Hall.  Every property owner should view the maps to see if any changes have occurred that would affect their property.  Many properties that are not shown to be in  a Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) on the current effective FIRMs, may now be shown in SFHA on the preliminary FIRMs due to FEMA's remapping effort.  This will have an impact on any future development on those properties, and may in some cases require those property owners to carry flood insurance.  Additional information will be posted to the Town's website soon.
