Pine Point Road Improvements On-Street Parking Amendment Presentation

posted Feb 17, 2017, 8:10 AM by Colette Mathieson
On behalf of the Transportation Committee, the Planning Department staff presented for Town Council consideration an
amendment to the Chapter 601, Traffic Ordinance, that will safely allow on-street parking on Pine Point Road between the intersection of East Grand Avenue and the intersection of Snow Canning Road, only in designated on street parking areas.

With the Maine Department of Transportation's paving project on Pine Point Road scheduled for summer, the Transportation Committee took the opportunity to investigate the issues along this stretch of roadway and incorporate a Complete Streets approach to the design, which includes facilities for bikes, pedestrians, traffic calming measures, and designated on-street parking.  These were issues that were brought up at the public meeting held at the Pine Point Fire Station on March 22, 2016.  It was very clear from public feedback that parking along both sides of Pine Point Road within a narrow paved shoulder was not a safe condition and modifications to the overall footprint of the corridor were necessary.  Staff and the Committee took the feedback from the residents and have provided a proposed cross-section design that provides a safe and balanced approach to resolve many of the issues along this corridor.
