Town of Scarborough Tax Rate - For 2019

The Town’s Assessor has set the tax rate for this year at $14.70 per thousand of valuation. This is a decrease of $1.79 or 10.86% from

last year. Tax bills will be mailed the week of September 15 with the first payment due on October 15. Recognizing that some taxpayers will be required to pay a higher amount in taxes than they expected, the Town Council voted at their August 28, 2019 meeting to reduce the interest charged on late tax payments from 9.0% to 1.5% for the October payment and to 5.0% for the March payment.

Due to delays from our assessing software provider Vision, final property cards showing adjustments made will not be available on-line until September 12.  However, the Town has prepared a simple spreadsheet that shows the final value for each property. In the meantime, if taxpayers are interested in reviewing the final property card they can stop by the Assessor’s Office to obtain a copy.

Despite our best efforts to make adjustments to property values we know that some taxpayers will be interested in discussing changes.   Our Assessing Department invites any property owners with concerns to call their office, (207) 730-4060, to speak with a staff member to review property cards over the phone. All Assessing Department staff are ready and able to make minor changes where errors exist on the property card. In addition, thirty minute appointments with the Assessor, David Bouffard, will begin on Monday, September 9 and will continue each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 am - 11:00 am and 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm as needed. There will also be times available for evening appointments between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm on the following Wednesdays: September 18, September 25, October 2, and October 9.

Any over payment of taxes that is the result of property card errors will be abated as a credit towards the March 2020 tax bill.
