Update on Preliminary FEMA Flood Hazard Maps

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has issued preliminary Flood Hazard maps for Cumberland County. The new Flood Hazard maps can be viewed by clicking the link below this article, at Town Hall, or by visiting FEMA'S web site. We have asked the Maine Floodplain Management Office and FEMA to schedule a public meeting in the near future for Cumberland County. The purpose of the meeting would be to review the mapping process, discuss disaster preparation, mitigation of risk, and map adoption schedules. Once a meeting is scheduled, notice will be sent via the Town's email notification system and be posted to the Town's website.

In addition, the FEMA Process Memo linked below outlines the general process FEMA and the Town will be following in reviewing and ultimately adopting updated Flood Hazard maps. This memo also outlines the efforts the Town is taking to review the preliminary Flood Hazard maps FEMA has generated.

In addition, a story on the flood map update has recently been aired on The Maine Public Broadcast Network (MPBN) on this matter.
