Zoning Board of Appeals

Zoning Board of Appeals meeting will continue to be conducted on a virtual platform in accordance with State authorization enabled by Sec. G-1. 1 MRSA §403-A. The Town is currently utilizing Zoom for those that wish to attend the meeting (i.e. applicants, members of the public that wish to speak).  The town has also setup a Youtube channel for those that wish to watch the proceedings.

Links to these sites will be prepared and provided for on this website in advance of the meetings.

Members of the public wishing to comment on application are encouraged to submit their comments in writing prior to the meeting to dchrist@scarboroughmaine.org.  Otherwise public comment will be taken through the Zoom web application which can be accessed via computer or telephone connection.

        - Electronic submissions must be submitted on or before required deadline

    Payments for applications can be made either by check (mailed or placed in the submission packet).  Other methods of payment can be discussed with Staff.

The Scarborough Zoning Board of Appeals is charged with hearing and deciding a range of different types of appeals and special exceptions as specified in the Zoning Ordinance. Appeals heard by the Zoning Board include administrative appeals, variance appeals, miscellaneous appeals, limited reduction of yard size appeals, and practical difficulty appeals. Special exception uses are permitted in various zoning districts subject to review and approval by the Zoning Board.

Refer to Section V of the Zoning Ordinance for more information on all the listed appeals, or contact the Zoning Administrator, Brian Longstaff, with any questions.  All submissions now require an electronic version as well as the 10 paper copies.  Required electronic submission can be emailed to: submittals@scarboroughmaine.org or on a thumb drive.

Meetings

Zoning Board of Appeals meetings are the second Wednesday of each month.

Deadline

Submittal including an electronic copy as well as 10 copies of package is due the 20th of the month before the next agenda. If the 20th falls on a Saturday or Sunday, submittal is due the Friday before.  Required electronic submission can be emailed to: submittals@scarboroughmaine.org or on a thumb drive.
