CPR and AED Classes

Scarborough Public Safety has added the following programs for the public to attend:

Hands Only CPR (FREE)
The Hand-Only CPR course is designed to teach the basics of performing CPR.  The primary focus is on chest compressions to help someone experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. The Hands-Only CPR class target audience is the general public, including those with no prior CPR experience. This course teaches recognition of cardiac arrest, how to perform effective chest compressions, and how to use an AED.

Heartsaver CPR and AED
The Heartsaver CPR AED course trains participants to give CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner. Reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC). The AHA Heartsaver CPR AED Course is designed for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in CPR and AED use to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements. This course teaches how high-quality CPR improves survival, the concepts of the Chain of Survival, recognition of when someone needs CPR, how to perform high-quality CPR for an adult, child and infant, how to perform CPR with help from others, giving effective breaths using mouth-to-mouth or a mask for all age groups, how to use an AED on an adult and child, describe when and how to help a choking adult, child and infant.

Basic Life Support for Health Care Professionals
The AHA’s Basic Life Support (BLS) course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED. Reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).  The AHA’s BLS Course is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings. This course teaches high-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants, the AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components, important early use of an AED, effective ventilations using a barrier device, importance of teams in multi rescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multi rescuer CPR, relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants.
