If you are in need of a same-day or same-week appointment, please call and we can check availability. We do not keep a cancellation call list due to the nature of passport appointments.

Maine State IDs & the Real ID Act

Due to the circumstances resulting from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) extended the deadline for REAL ID until May 3, 2025. Beginning in May 2025, DHS will require customers to use a REAL ID to fly domestically. The most common REAL ID is a state-issued driver's license. A U.S. passport book and passport card are two of many alternative documents that customers can use to fly domestically if they do not have a state-issued REAL ID. Passport Application

U.S. citizens planning international travel may apply for their passports at the Community Services Hub at 418 Payne Road in Scarborough. For first-time passports (or renewals for children 15 and under), please remember to bring the following:

Completed DS-11 Form

Evidence of U.S. Citizenship

Please bring one of the following:

A certified birth certificate issued by the city, county, or state
This must have a registrar’s raised, embossed, impressed, or multicolored seal, registrar’s signature, and the date the certificate was filed with the registrar’s office, which must be within 1 year of your birth. The full names of the applicant’s parent(s) must be listed on all certificated birth certificates
Previously issued undamaged U.S. Passport
Consular Report of Birth Abroad or Certification of Birth
Naturalization Certificate
Certificate of Citizenship

The original evidence (certificate or passport), not a copy, will be submitted with the passport application. It will eventually be returned to you under separate cover.

Identification

Please bring one of the following: (Community Services can make a photocopy of your identification to go with the passport application.)

Valid Maine Driver's License
Valid Maine identification card
Previously issued, undamaged U.S. passport
Certificate of Naturalization with identifiable photo attached
Current Government ID (city, state or federal)
Current Military ID (military and dependents)
