Private Ways
The development of a private way is required for single-family residential lots that need to acquire frontage and are not able to do so along a public street. This approval process is through the Town Engineer and includes a review of: overall private way roadway design, impacts on natural resources, infrastructure, serviceability and maintenance responsibility, fire protection, drainage impacts, and traffic mitigation.
Chapter 405, Section IX Performance Standards, I - Private Way Residential Development Ordinance was established in 2006 to address emergency access issues on private ways in Town. This Ordinance outlines the Private Way application process, general requirements, infrastructure design and construction standards, natural resource mapping and identification, and fire protection infrastructure standards.
