Training

The Scarborough Fire Department is responsible for providing training and professional development opportunities for all members of the department. Classes are offered on different days and at various times to accommodate the full-time, per-diem, and call company personnel.

Training Calendar

The training calendar is constantly being updated with the most current information. It is also distributed weekly in the department’s electronic newsletter, The Friday Update. If you aren’t currently receiving the newsletter, contact the Chief’s office to be added to the distribution list.

Annual Mandatory Training Requirements

The Maine Bureau of Labor mandates a variety of training that must be completed on an annual basis for the safety of all personnel. Each year the department publishes a list of those requirements for the upcoming fiscal training year.

Emergency Medical Services Maine EMS is excited to offer this new mechanism of training throughout the state. This platform offers the ability to reach across the state, offering quality and standardized education while removing some of the temporal and geographic barriers to excellent education.

Additional Training Requirements & Opportunities

Driver Recertification

All certified drivers of the department will be recertified every three years in the vehicles they have been previously certified to drive.

New Employee Orientation

New Employee Orientation All new employees will need to complete the entry level BLS courses. Orientation courses are designed to introduce the new employee to the Fire Department and to provide the building blocks for personal safety and education. All new employees must complete these regulatory courses as part of the orientation process before responding to an incident.
