Changes to Curbside Collection Beginning July 1, 2026
The Town of Scarborough is partnering with Garbage to Garden to bring enhanced waste collection services to all Scarborough households. Beginning July 1st, Garbage to Garden will be our new contracted service provider for trash and recycling collection (in place of Casella). There will be no changes to the schedule or routes.
What's new? Curbside composting will now be available as an opt-in service, making it easier than ever to reduce what goes to the landfill right from your doorstep. Scarborough residents are already making a difference — and now there are even more ways to build on that progress. Read the full press release.

Collection Schedule
Holiday Schedule
Trash collection MAY be affected by the following holidays:
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
- New Year's Day
- SOMETIMES on Independence Day (check annually for updated information)
Occasionally, trash collection will NOT be affected by these holidays. Any updates to the schedule will be posted here as well as on the Town's Facebook page.
Storm Day Collection
Trash will be collected on storm days, even if there is no school. Only extreme weather conditions will prevent trucks from going out. Any updates to the schedule will be posted here as well as on the Town's Facebook page.
Trash Carts

Trash carts are picked up and emptied by extended arms on automated trucks. Be sure to leave a few feet of space between and around your trash and recycling carts. Carts placed too closely together do not provide enough room for the truck arm to reach, grasp, and return the carts.
Winter Trash Cart Placement
Wait until the day of your scheduled pickup to place carts curbside. Do not put carts out on the side of the road overnight. Place carts back from snow banks. The arm on the automated truck has a reach of about 12 feet, so if the cart is set back in your driveway, your materials will still get picked up. Remove empty containers from the side of the road as soon as possible.
