Shellfish License
2026 SHELLFISH LOTTERY AND LICENSE INFORMATION:
Town Hall hours: Monday—Thursday 7am to 5pm
Any person wishing to dig shellfish must possess a shellfish license. Year round licenses are valid from May 1st through April 30th of each year.
Resident and Non-Resident Commercial Shellfish Lotteries:
If there are any licenses available. Applications for the Resident and Non-Resident Commercial Shellfish Lotteries can be taken at the Town Clerk’s Office starting on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 and Thursday, April 9. The lottery will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2026 at the Safety Building [next to Town Hall] 275 US Route One in the fire bay. Check-in will begin at 2:30 p.m. The applicant must be present for the lottery.
Resident Recreational Shellfish and Resident Over 65 Shellfish Licenses:
Applications for the resident licenses will be on a first come first serve basis starting at 7am on Monday, April 6 in the Town Clerk’s Office. Licenses will be available online with a valid email address and in the Town Clerk's office. .
Non-Resident Recreational Shellfish and Non-Resident Over 65 Shellfish Licenses:
Applications for the Non-Resident licenses will be on a first come first serve basis starting at 7am on Monday, April 13 in the Town Clerk’s Office.
Resident and Non-Resident Recreational Day Shellfish Licenses:
Available online with a valid email address and in the Town Clerk's Office year around. There is a limit of 10 resident and 10 non-resident licenses that can be issued per day. Licenses must be purchased for a specific day(s) within a 5-day period.
You are able to pay by cash, check, or credit card for your license. If paying by check, please make checks payable to the Town of Scarborough. If paying by card, additional fees will be applied.
