The Engineering & Technical Services Department works closely with Public Works and the Planning Department to plan, administer, seek funding for, and construct traffic and transportation projects in Town. Following the Town’s Comprehensive Plan and Complete Streets Policy, we strive to find opportunities to partner with stakeholders in the region and State to improve our overall transportation system.

In addition, our staff reviews, approves, provides guidance to, and conducts construction oversight of many improvement projects carried out by private developers. These projects aim to mitigate the traffic impacts that development creates on our local roads.

Our Engineering staff continually seeks funding through a variety of programs primarily administered by the Maine Department of Transportation and the Portland Area Comprehensive Transportation System (PACTS). These funding programs help stretch our local dollars and result in more extension projects for greater benefit for our residents.

As the clearinghouse for information related to transportation and traffic related projects a map of upcoming Town-led, State-led, and Private Development-led projects is included below:

The Scarborough Transportation Improvements map highlights the wide array of projects happening within Scarborough’s public right-of-ways, currently and in upcoming years.
