Zoning Board of Appeals
About
Purpose
The Scarborough Zoning Board of Appeals is charged with hearing and deciding a range of different types of appeals and special exceptions as specified in the Zoning Ordinance. Appeals heard by the Zoning Board include administrative appeals, variance appeals, miscellaneous appeals, limited reduction of yard size appeals, and practical difficulty appeals. Special exception uses are permitted in various zoning districts subject to review and approval by the Zoning Board.

Meetings
In-person meetings are scheduled the second Wednesday of each month. Members of the public wishing to comment on an application are encouraged to submit their comments in writing prior to the meeting to dchrist@scarboroughmaine.org.
- Electronic submissions must be submitted on or before the required deadline
- To arrange a time to drop off a paper copy of the application submission materials please contact: Brian Longstaff, blongstaff@scarboroughmaine.
org.
Payments for applications can be made either by check (mailed or placed in the submission packet). Other methods of payment can be discussed with Staff. If you have any questions please call the Planning and Code Enforcement Office at 207-730-4040 during the hours of 8 am to 4 pm.

Applications
Applications
Refer to Section V of the Zoning Ordinance for more information on all the listed appeals, or contact the Zoning Administrator (Brian Longstaff) with any questions. All submissions now require an electronic version as well as the 10 paper copies. Package is due the 20th of the month before the next meeting agenda. If the 20th falls on a Saturday or Sunday, submission is due the Friday before. Required electronic submission can be emailed to: submittals@scarboroughmaine.org or on a thumb drive. Note: Please see “Important Announcements” below for updates related to COVID-19.
