Public Works Requests Sidewalk Machine in FY2026 Budget

The Public Works department oversees town operations like road and drainage maintenance, street sweeping, mowing, beach cleaning, and sidewalks. The Town of Scarborough has heard community feedback that not only do we need more sidewalks, we need to maintain the quality of the sidewalks we currently have.

Public Works is in its 4th year of a 10-year plan of a Sidewalk Rehabilitation Plan to address improvements. It’s also requested a third sidewalk machine with attachments in the FY2026 budget. Because it would be identical to the current two, the attachments could be used interchangeably and have abilities for year-round use. A third machine would help the department maintain more of the sidewalks in Scarborough.

Deputy Public Works Director Brett Frank and Operations Supervisor Adam Stoddard tell more about sidewalk maintenance in this video and do a demo of how the machine operates.
