Emerald Ash Borer Resources
Emerald ash borers (EAB) are an invasive species severely affecting ash trees in North America. Native to northeast Asia, the species is now widespread across much of the eastern United States and is predicted to have been responsible for the death and decline of tens of millions of ash trees in North America.
Maine is experiencing a surge of EAB detection in ash trees throughout southern Maine. The quarantine area as of November 2023 includes all of Androscoggin, Cumberland, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Sagadahoc, Waldo and York Counties and parts of Aroostook, Franklin, Oxford Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Somerset Counties.
The Maine Forest Service has several resources available to learn more about this invasive species and its impact. Please refer to their website for more information.
If you detect Emerald Ash Borer in Scarborough, please refer to the Maine Forest Service Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) Report Form.
